Different tools make different demands on the person using them. Compatibility, accessibility, maintenance, and the recovery process matter alongside technical features.
Open-source software makes its code available under a licence that allows inspection and other uses. That transparency is one consideration; it does not by itself establish security or suitability. The Open Source Initiative’s definition explains the licensing criteria.
Include recovery and inheritance
Think about what would happen if you lost access to a device, or someone else needed to follow your plan. Recovery and inheritance arrangements should reflect your setup and the people involved.
